In an effort to encourage pet owners to get their dogs or cats altered, the Flathead Spay & Neuter Task Force is offering two limited programs. With rising expenses, the need for affordable surgeries is critical. Coupled with the inevitable "puppy and kitten season," the time is now to get pets spayed or neutered. The Clinic is offering $15 cat spays for the first 100 female cats, six weeks of age or older. This will help prevent countless numbers of litters from being born and contributing to the pet overpopulation problem. Mention the promotion when calling in.

A special pit bull or pit bull cross program will be offered to the first 50 dogs and the surgeries will be half off the regular prices ($30-40), for dogs six weeks of age and older. The Flathead County Shelter is seeing a huge increase in the numbers of this particular breed and there are not enough homes for all of them. These programs will save pet owners a great deal money and will go a long ways towards reducing the euthanasia rate at the Shelter. To make an appointment, contact the Task Force at 881-4500 to leave your information and we will call back to schedule an appointment. Clinics are held twice a month for three days at a time and appointments are required. For more information, contact the Flathead Spay & Neuter Task Force at 892-7387.

A temporary boat launch for small boats is available during reconstruction and parking will be available in an area signed near the beach area. The temporary boat launch is not feasible for large boats and users are responsible to determine if their boat can safely be launched at the temporary site. Work is also underway to lengthen the Overlook Trail, Forest Trail #804, into a three-mile loop trail from the Tally Lake Campground to the overlook area and back to the campground. The trail extension should be completed by the end of July. For more information contact the Tally Lake District at 758-5204 or visit www.fs.fed.us/r1/flathead.

Thinking About Welcoming an Exchange Student? Now’s the Time. Sharing daily life with a teenager from another country and culture is a rich and rewarding experience, and it’s a wonderful way to bring more understanding into the world. AFS, the leading international high school student exchange program, needs families in our community to host high school students for an academic year or six months. Students arrive in August. All kinds of families can host. One of the most important characteristics of a host family is being eager and excited to share your life and activities while providing the same kind of care, support, and comfort as you would to your own child. Visit www.afs.org/usa/host family or contact local AFS Volunteer Sally Kinkade at 972.317.4916 or E-MAIL HERE
